Color Scheme/Appearance

When creating text-based assets, it is important to have a uniform appearance and feel. One way to achieve this goal is to abide by the company’s color standards and customer-facing branding guidelines when creating these assets.

Although Cengage colors are tested for contrast, they need always to be used in ways that ensure sufficient color contrast per WCAG 2.1AA. Color by itself should not be used to communicate meaning; it needs to be accompanied by additional methods such as text.

To improve reuse and efficiency of content, prefer "generic" Cengage branding. There are some cases where more specific brand identifies also need to be used.

  • Different brands have different brand identities which we want to honor.
  • At the same time, creating duplicate resources that differ only in branding is inefficient and creates duplicate maintenance/possible confusion.
  • Prefer where possible to select a single brand (colors etc.) that most closely conforms with most brand identities.
  • On brand-specific sites/landing pages, we might implement branding specific style.

Inline text

  • Base text color should be black (simple, high contrast, brand consistent).
  • Headings (etc.) are visually distinguishable by styles but keep same color as body text.
  • Use boldface appropriately for inline headings (for example, Important:).
  • Use grays instead of color for tables and headings.
