educator, instructor, teacher

Use educator, instructor and teacher, not professor or faculty.

The term educator is broadly acceptable to describe education professionals from grade school through postgraduate education. Educator can be used when writing for a general audience.

  • Use teacher for a strictly K-12 audience.

Example: If you forget your NGLSync password, ask your teacher to change it for you.

  • Use instructor for a higher education audience and for all help documentation that is not strictly K-12.

Example: Cengage Unlimited includes access to eBooks, study tools, and courses led by an instructor.

  • When writing for students, do not refer to their instructor or teacher as their educator.
